KIKWETU YOUTH ORGANIZATION
Kikwetu Youth Organization is a Kenyan Community Based Organization (CBO) empowering young people from the area of Nairobi called Kangemi, based on the help and work of volunteers, supporters and parents from Kangemi.
KIKWETU FC
The organization was founded as a football club - KIKWETU FC - by Henry Jiddali, who lives in Kangemi. What began as a football club with 9 players in 2006 has now grown into a club for more than 300 youth, where the club ranked number 1 in the District League in 2012 and advanced to County and Provincial League where they rank 5 in the County and 7 in Provincial. In 2013 Kikwetu joined with a girls’ team in the Nairobi Queens League and ranks 5.

MORE THAN FOOTBALL
Besides the football club, Kikwetu also has an extensive programme called “MORE THAN FOOTBALL”.
The "More than Football" programme was created from the realization that Kikwetu needed to provide life skills in order to prepare the youth to face the immense challenges of the present and the future.
This programme is dedicated to empowerment through education, psychosocial skills and economic empowerment. In this regard, Kikwetu Youth supports education (primary, secondary and further studies), counseling and motivation, upstart of businesses, creation of jobs and youth employment, urban agriculture projects and ‘Merry-go-Round’ initiatives.

KANGEMI
Kangemi is a low income neighborhood in Nairobi, with the rate of unemployment as high as 70%, especially among the youth.
Currently, Kangemi does not have the infrastructure to offer activities for young people. As a result, a negative cycle of poverty and crime exists. This is where Kikwetu plays a vital role.
KIKWETU
KIKWETU is Kiswahili and means
“our heritage” or “our culture”.
It is our goal to strengthen the youth’s sense of self-worth, discipline, commitment and engagement in life and culture. To deepen self sufficiency as an individual and ability as a team-player.
